In honour of International Women’s Day, we at Salford Innovation Forum are thrilled to highlight the incredible female business owners within our community. With this years theme as “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” we want to shine a spotlight on Sara Auty, the inspiring founder of Saz Media. Her journey, challenges, and achievements serve as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring female entrepreneurs.
To delve deeper into her experiences, we asked Sara some questions about being a female business owner.
What Inspired You to Start Your Business?
Sara: “I started my business because I wanted to use my skills that I had developed in media to encourage learning and inspire young people. I liked the idea of being able to create something unique to me whilst also supporting others.”
What Challenges Have You Faced as a Female Business Owner, and How Have You Overcome Them?
Sara: “I have faced many challenges as a female business owner, foremost dealing with my own imposter syndrome. It’s taken many years to overcome, but now I feel very comfortable in most spaces and I’m proud of how much I and other women in my network have achieved despite this feeling of not belonging.”
What Advice Would You Give to Other Women Looking to Start Their Own Business?
Sara: “I’d say there’s no time like the present. Start right now. Think of all the unique offerings you have, know your value, and test and learn everything.”
How Do You Balance Your Professional and Personal Life?
Sara: “It’s a real juggle; it constantly changes as the business evolves and demands more. I have had to accept that my social life is never going to be how it was when I worked for someone else. However, that sacrifice has meant that I have real purpose in my work and I’m creating great opportunities for my employees and beneficiaries.”
What Has Been Your Proudest Moment as a Business Owner?
Sara: “There are so many proud moments over the years. One that stands out is seeing our films on a massive screen for the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter Awards.”
How Do You See Your Business Evolving in the Next Few Years?
Sara: “I see us growing slowly and organically. We currently offer our services nationwide, but recruiting more employees would help us increase our reach and social impact.”
