Innovation is at the heart of what we do at Salford Innovation Forum, so we are thrilled to celebrate Unlimited Potential as a nominee for an Innovation in politics award finalist.
Their project, Economies for Healthier Lives, earned recognition in the Local Development category at the Innovation in Politics Awards 2025. Even though they did not win, this nomination demonstrates the innovative work happening in our building and across Salford.
About the Economies for Healthier Lives Project
Unlimited Potential’s project demonstrates how local economic development can improve health outcomes and reduce inequalities. They focused on practical solutions that directly benefit communities rather than treating health separately.
They also led a city-wide community wealth-building project on behalf of Partners in Salford, bringing together public health experts, economic development teams, and anchor institutions across the city.
Connecting Health and Local Economic Development
The project shows how collaboration between public health and economic development can make a real difference. Moreover, it demonstrates why Unlimited Potential was recognised as a Salford innovation in politics award finalist.
Co-Creation and Community Wealth Building in Salford
Young adults from low-wealth areas co-produced social enterprises that now supply local anchor institutions. This approach ensures that solutions meet community needs and deliver measurable local impact.
In addition, these efforts create opportunities for young entrepreneurs and strengthen the local economy.
Policy Impact and Long-Term Change
Unlimited Potential’s approach influenced Salford City Council’s Corporate Plan 2024–2028, embedding community wealth building into city strategy. Furthermore, their work is now part of the Salford Way strategy and Locality Plan for health and well-being, ensuring lasting benefits for the city.
Innovation in Action at Salford Innovation Forum
At Salford Innovation Forum, we support organisations that rethink systems and create practical solutions for communities. Unlimited Potential’s nomination as an innovation in politics award finalist, it shows that innovation is alive in our centre and across the city.
As a result, Salford is leading the way in demonstrating how innovation can create a fairer, greener, and healthier economy.
